Church tower clock restoration update

STOP PRESS! Cumbria Clocks commenced work on Wednesday 1st November, removing the old casing and the clock mechanism which has been taken to their workshop. This is quite a milestone. The clock face will be removed at a later date and will certainly be something to view, we are considering abseiling the tower to lower it to the ground, but that will depend on the crew attending. We will let you know when this is due to take place.

Photographs of the mechanism being dismantled are being added to our website.

As you will see from their logos below, on behalf of the PCC we have achieved grants totalling £8,500 from these organisations for which we are very grateful. One or two are dependent on the work being carried out within a specific time frame and to comply with certain conditions before payment is made but we are confident we will achieve this.

We are really pleased to advise we should have funds in the region of £26,500 available towards the project, far more than our original target, and we have a few more events to come in 2023 so an amazing achievement, you have all been so supportive, coming along to the events, buying raffle tickets. The balance of the project costs will, of course, be met by St Mary’s PCC.
